Neoregelia are so-called epiphytes or air plants, ie they grow on trees or the like.
Like the tillandsia and the eponymous pineapple, they belong to the Bromeliaceae family. The plants native to tropical America are not quite as well known as the Guzmania or Vriesen.
What makes them special are their deep funnels and the many different colors in which these plants are available.
For some frog species, these plants are essential for survival: They lay their eggs in funnels filled with water and the tadpoles grow in them.
Thus, they are also wonderfully suitable for rainforest terraces
