The mastic tree is closely related to the pistachio, but its small red berries are not edible. Its resin, on the other hand, has been used since the ancient Egyptians: they used it for mummification. Later, the effect as a medicine and cosmetic was discovered.
The wild pistachio, as this shrub is also called, is a typical tree from the Mediterranean region. It is evergreen, but not quite frost hardy - but it does very well in a cool, bright room in winter.
