These ornamental apples come from the Mediterranean region and should be outdoors if possible, because they need the sun but also the cold to grow the small apples.
Ornamental apples are hardy and also withstand frosts well. The attractive small fruits often stay on the tree all winter. If you keep the tree in a bowl, make sure it doesn''t freeze through- They should protect the tree at -2°C at the latest.
As a bonsai, the ornamental apple prefers a well-drained, nutrient-rich substrate.
