Fritillaria meleagris, known in German as Schachbrettblume, has a very special, almost fairytale-like charm in the violet/white mix. The delicate, nodding flowers seem to come from a different world, patterned like fine scales or soft watercolor wings. Each bulb creates an elegant, slender plant that is just as at home in the garden border as it is in naturalistic plantings or under loose shrubs.
The checkerboard flower is considered a quiet herald of spring, impressing with its subtle beauty without being obtrusive. It loves loose, slightly moist soil and is particularly effective in groups, where the mixture of purple and pure white flowers creates a harmonious, gentle play of colors.
The botanical name is followed by details of the bulb size and total height as soon as these are known. This plant is easy to care for, has a natural appearance and delights anew every year.
