With a few ornaments, the Sugar Pine becomes a small living Christmas tree that finds a place in the garden or on the terrace after the holidays. Its fine needles and clear sugarloaf shape fit well next to the front door or as a single accent along a garden path. As an evergreen conifer, Picea glauca remains interesting even after Christmas.
Plan the later outdoor location before decorating: For the holidays, a short display in a cool room, away from radiators and fireplaces, is ideal. A heated living room is not a permanent growing place. For multi-year pot culture, the container and root space must keep pace with the plant; the size at purchase is not a permanent final measure.
Stone and gravel gardens are also suitable for design, where the closed crown stands out from the open areas. Against a calm wall surface, its contour is particularly well highlighted; with a second specimen, an entrance can be framed in pairs. Leave enough space between neighboring plants so that each crown remains a distinct focal point.
